About Scentena

    Scentena is a browser-based perfume formulation workspace. It helps hobbyists, fragrance students, independent perfumers, and small creative teams move from a scent idea to a structured formula they can evaluate and improve.

    A clearer starting point for formulation

    Perfumery combines sensory judgment with careful record-keeping. A formulator must define an idea, choose materials, balance the evaporation curve, normalize percentages, calculate weights, and track safety information. Scentena brings those steps into one consistent workflow so that early experiments are easier to understand and reproduce.

    The platform is designed to support—not replace—the work at the smelling bench. Generated formulas are starting points. The value comes from making a trial, observing it over time, recording what changed, and using that evidence to shape the next version.

    AI-assisted perfume formulation

    Scentena can translate a creative brief or a set of parameters into a grounded formula structure. The formula generator works from choices such as scent theme, concentration, style, composition method, and batch size. The AI Lab adds brief development, presets, material suggestions, and goal-based exploration for qualities such as longevity, projection, and balance.

    AI output can be incomplete, unsuitable, or unexpectedly similar to other output. It must be evaluated by a person who understands the actual materials, intended product, and use conditions. Scentena does not present a generated formula as a finished commercial recipe.

    Ingredient-based formulas and accords

    The Ingredient Builder is for working from the material level. You can select ingredients, describe a custom material, or treat a tested accord as a building block. Scentena normalizes the concentrate, calculates gram targets for a trial, and helps keep the relationship between concentrate percentage and finished-product percentage visible.

    Accord development is a central part of the learning approach. Rather than hiding every choice inside a black box, the builder makes it possible to compare proportions, preserve a successful sub-formula, and understand how it changes the larger composition. The Learn section provides practical background on floral and amber accords, the Jean Carles method, materials, formula maths, and performance.

    What IFRA-aware means at Scentena

    Where the application has relevant material data, it can apply stored caps, convert a concentrate dose into an estimated finished-product dose, and flag a result that needs review. This is an early screening aid intended to make safety questions more visible during creative work.

    It is not IFRA certification and does not guarantee regulatory compliance. Standards, supplier products, natural-material composition, product categories, amendments, and laws change. Users remain responsible for confirming material identity, checking current supplier documentation and official IFRA Standards, obtaining any required safety assessment, testing the finished product, and meeting every requirement in the markets where a formula will be manufactured, used, gifted, or sold.

    Scentena is an independent software project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). The IFRA name is used only to identify its published standards and the checks users should perform against current official and supplier documentation.

    The purpose of the platform

    Scentena exists to reduce blank-page friction and calculation overhead while encouraging better formulation habits: explicit assumptions, versioned trials, careful observation, and visible limitations. It is a creative and educational tool, not a laboratory, safety assessor, regulatory consultant, or substitute for professional judgment.
