Scentena builds a balanced perfume formula from a short brief — theme, concentration, gender, and composition method — then scales every material to gram weights for your batch size. Here is what the numbers mean and how to turn them into a wearable scent.
A finished fragrance is a perfume oil concentrate diluted in perfumer's alcohol. The concentration is the share of that oil in the bottle, and it is the single biggest driver of how strong and long-lasting the result feels.
The generator uses your selected type as the default oil percentage, which you can override. As a rule of thumb:
Every material in your formula is classified as a top, heart, or base note based on how quickly it evaporates (its volatility). Together they form the classic fragrance pyramid, and a pleasant scent usually needs all three tiers.
Top notes are the first impression — citrus, aldehydes, and light aromatics that flash off within minutes. Heart notes are the body of the fragrance, typically florals and spices that carry the theme for a few hours. Base notes are the foundation — woods, ambers, resins, and musks that fix the blend and linger for hours or days.
The note split shown alongside your formula tells you how the composition is weighted. If the top is very high the scent will be loud but fleeting; if the base dominates it will be quiet at first and bloom slowly on skin.
Many aroma materials are restricted by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), including for sensitization concerns at particular exposures. Where a material has a stored reference limit, Scentena estimates its finished-product dose and flags a result that needs review.
Treat every flag and stored limit as an incomplete screening aid rather than certification or a safety decision. Standards, product categories, material composition, supplier data, and laws change — confirm the exact material against current official and supplier documents and obtain any assessment required for the intended product and market.
The gram column is a calculated trial target for your chosen batch size and concentration. Before weighing, verify every material's identity, dilution, supplier instructions, handling requirements, and current restrictions; use appropriate training, protective equipment, ventilation, and a suitable scale. Start with a small evaluation trial rather than treating generated output as a production recipe.
Maturation matters: most blends are sharp and disjointed for the first day or two and only settle into their intended character after one to four weeks of resting in a cool, dark place.
